Maja is not a static home. She is a moving base that has already taken us through northern Europe and down to the Mediterranean approaches. This page is a simple overview of the places we have been so far, with links to the videos that show the real conditions and experiences.
We will keep updating it as the journey continues.
Norway – Where It Started
Home waters. Sandefjord was our base for several years. We used Maja along the Norwegian and Swedish coasts, learning the boat and making the first upgrades.
Sweden – Refit and Preparation
In 2024 Maja went to Sweden for a major refit, including the complete replacement of the teak deck. This was a long and important period of preparation before the longer journey south.
Denmark, Germany, Helgoland & the Netherlands (2025)
After the refit we sailed south through Denmark, Germany, Helgoland and the Dutch canals on the way toward the UK. This leg included both open-water sailing and the special experience of travelling through the inland waterways of the Netherlands.
United Kingdom
Maja arrived in Dover after the northern European leg. From the UK a professional delivery crew took her further south toward Spain.
The Delivery South – Biscay & the Approach to Gibraltar
In late summer 2025 a delivery crew sailed Maja from the UK toward Spain. This passage included the Bay of Biscay and ended with the well-known orca encounter west of Gibraltar. The boat eventually reached Alcaidesa Marina in La Línea.
Southern Spain – Base in 2026
Maja is currently based in the Alcaidesa / La Línea area (southern Spain). This is our starting point for the next seasons in the Mediterranean.
Planned Next Steps
- 2026: Torrevieja and the Spanish Mediterranean coast
- 2027: Canary Islands → Atlantic crossing toward Barbados and the Caribbean
The journey is still unfolding. We will continue to document both the sailing and the places as we go.
